Free Shop

Before the introduction of cash cards there was a free shop on the Filoxenia International site where residents were able to get food supplies as well as non-food items that they needed. This allowed residents to organise their households independently and obtain what they needed in a dignified manner. The running of the shop was carefully designed in order to ensure that all residents would have equal access to supplies. As the shop developed it became a community run venture, the residents re-stocked and re-ordered supplies and kept detailed records of the workings of the shop. These were the first steps of community building that were essential for everyone.
